His name is --Basspopper Jr Cobb and he' from the mississippi delta,Were he learned how to play bass from the great Guitar Charlie and Charlie Ross at an early age.basspopper now live's in Duluth Mn were he play's in a blue's and rock band, basspopper has played the north duluth blues fest for 7years now,He's played with legends like!! Coco Taylor>Jaco Johnsons blues band and guitar charlie blues band and the steppin stone band and most of all to his heart he set in with b.b king and eric clapton at the st,paul blues fest as well,Robert Runnels of the Duluth New's paper say's this about basspopper,I have never ever heard such a funky slappin clean bassplayer sense the great Stanley Clark, that was untill i saw mr bassman him self play at our local blues fest.He took his fender p.bass and put on a real good show,The band let him take a solo and he did a 5min funky slappin and the people went wild over him. When the concert was over,I ask him who was his favorite bassplayer? He said to me the Great Stanley Clark and Jaco p.It was then i ask him to tell me how this all got started.
J.r said it was in the early 80's when his family friend marty ware introduce jr to guitar charlie and they started playing around jamming,it was then that guitar charlie saw a future great bassman for his blue's band. Now jr said that he always played the guitare, doing country song's and playing with his family friend that he calls brother mr martin ware of greenville ms.It was martin that got him into the Danny Williams and the Mike Floyd band and the top of the river band and the whisky river band in the early 90's.after that it was he met johnny ross and picked up a few basslines from him, them it was johnny's older brother charlie that show him the clean way of playing the bass. Now these day's basspopper went on to learn on his own and now have his own style of playing. Robert Runnels of duluth paper.
J.r said that he is still learning, for a fact if any musician says that they don't need practice because there too good or they been playing for years,Keep this in mine friend,There's always someone around the corner better than you are!! Like Stanley Clark said in his bio,You never stop learning because there's always something knew to learn. So my friend keep on rockin......See i been playing for 37years+ and i'm still today playing in country bands and blues band and jazz bands around the northwest and east. Now don't get me wrong,Stanley Clark is still the greatest of all time to this day my friends,For a fact i'm going to see Return to Forever 08 tour in st,paul. It's nothing like seeing your mentor on stage.Basspopper jr cobb.To this day basspopper jr cobb plays with a great rockin country and blues band called>Crossfire,Now get this basspopper go's under a stage name J.r Twitty and friends still calls him basspopper because of his great blues and southern rock style of music.Basspopper was raised on the blues and country music all his life.
